Questions and tips on splitting shared bills

This is a place for people who share a home to ask questions and swap tips about splitting utility bills. For example: how your household handled a roommate who moved out mid-cycle, which split method you agreed on and why, how your supplier's bill shows standing charges, or a case the calculator handles badly.
